FAQs
How are the pigs processed?
As a registered food premise and selling meat, we need to abide by the State regulations to sell meat for human consumption.
This requires us to have our pigs processed (or slaughtered) in a Primesafe registered facility and Inspected by a registered Primesafe Meat Inspector.
Therefore we transport our own pigs, to reduce the stress of handling to a commercial abattoir, approximately 1 hour away. People are relatively unaware of who few abattoirs there are that process pigs.
We have worked very close with the abattoir for the past 12 years and we have a good relationship with them.
There has been bad media on the processing of pigs over the years - we recognise that our animals ‘Live the Best Life’ and have one day bad to provide us with beautiful produce that we respect from the day it is born and till the day we eat it.
Do you only sell Female pork?
No, we have a natural farming philosopy. We let every pig born, male or female to live a beautiful life and create delicious pork.
Female pork became an issue as the Australian Pork Industry did not castrate male pigs and then started taking pigs to a heavier weight and those male pigs were making male hormones which tainted the meat.
As we farm an Old Breed, commonly a Berkshire - the pigs are slower grower and we also don’t take our pigs to a heavy weight. So the risk of the taint is extreme low.
